Residents

Matrix is unique in delivering resident engagement across six organisations which, although within a partnership, remain independent.
This means residents have the opportunity to engage with us in a truly independent role, to scrutinise and shape services, as well as to share their ideas and compare the performance of each association in the partnership. Click here to find out about current opportunities for getting involved.
Key areas of work for residents so far include:

  • Resident- led Forum Event; a joint Matrix residents' response to the recently-launched NHF "Code of Accountability". A lively group of resident representatives from across the partnership considered the new code. Whilst being generally supportive, a range of changes were suggested. Click here for a copy of the response.
  • Resident Inspector Team. There are now 12 fully-trained resident inspectors from across the partnership. Their role is to benchmark services, suggest improvements and share good practice. Click here for further details of their inspections.
  • Resident Training Programme. Joint training sessions were held in 2008 on: Chairing Skills, Equality and Diversity, Presentation Skills, Recruitment and Selection and the Role of Resident Reps. These have already been put to good use by residents. All sessions were well attended and we received excellent feedback. Click here for details of up and coming training sessions.
  • A Professional Tenants project is also currently being developed. Expectations are growing that housing associations should work with their residents to ensure the best possible services.  Various approaches are being taken to make this happen, but a possible consequence is that sometimes too much is expected of volunteer tenants. For this reason, it is proposed to set up a pilot programme where residents are “rewarded” either financially or through other means.

“Resident Involvement is the way forward. It encourages residents to take more pride in their homes as they have assisted in the design. Where else could you have an input into your home unless you are buying it? It is a very exciting position to be in making improvements to both yours and others homes” Anne Harbourne
